About Mining Engineering Department

Mining Engineering Department is one of the foundational academic departments under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Mining Engineering, as a dynamic and multidisciplinary field, integrates the core principles of geological sciences, mechanical engineering, materials science, environmental science, and data analytics. The Department runs a five-year programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in Mining Engineering. The programme is designed to foster strong interdisciplinary collaboration, enabling students to identify overlaps with other engineering domains and contribute effectively to integrated solutions in mining, mineral processing, and resource management. With a focus on innovation, safety, and sustainability, the curriculum prepares students to design, operate, and manage advanced mining systems, including the use of automation, remote sensing, and digital technologies in line with global industry trends such as smart mining and decarbonization. The Department’s five-year degree programme is grounded in a solid foundation of mathematics, earth and engineering sciences, and general studies. It supports specialisation in areas like surface and underground mining, mineral economics, geostatistics, mine planning, and environmental impact assessment, while also offering flexibility to engage with emerging technologies. This forward-looking education ensures that graduates possess the technical expertise and the ethical and environmental awareness required to lead in the evolving global mining sector. It is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, workshops, and instructional resources required for educating students in key areas of Mining Engineering, including exploration, extraction, mineral processing, rock mechanics, and mine safety.
