Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering
About Agricultural and Biosystem Engineering Department
The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering stands at the intersection of innovation, sustainability, and societal relevance. In an era where agricultural systems face increasing complexity due to climate change, food insecurity, and environmental degradation, the role of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer is more critical than ever. The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin Ekiti was established as a response to the growing need for technologically driven solutions in agriculture, environmental management, and food production. It is committed to equipping students with the engineering knowledge and practical skills needed to address the challenges facing modern agriculture in tropical and developing regions.
It was built upon a multidisciplinary foundation, integrating agricultural sciences with mechanical, civil, and environmental engineering principles. It has robust academic programmes that cover the major areas like farm power and machinery engineering; soil and water resources engineering; crop processing, storage and agro-industrial engineering; farm structures, rural electrification and environmental control engineering; forestry and wood products engineering; and food process engineering. Emphasizing innovation, sustainability, and problem-solving, the department will continue to play a strategic role in advancing smart farming techniques, climate-resilient agricultural practices, and environmentally sustainable engineering solutions.
The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at FUTES remains committed to producing well-rounded graduates who are capable of transforming the agricultural landscape through research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. We invite you to join us.
