Geology
About Geology Department
The Department of Geology integrates the knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics in studying the Earth’s composition, structure, resources, history, and the processes that have shaped it over millions of years. As part of the University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, the department applies modern technological tools and promotes environmental consciousness in the exploration and management of geological resources and Earth systems. Students acquire a solid foundation in mineralogy, petrology, geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing and environmental geology. Being a highly practical discipline, geological knowledge is developed through intensive fieldwork and laboratory exercises, supported by relevant digital technologies. Graduates are equipped with a broad range of skills applicable to water exploration and production, oil and gas exploration and development, solid mineral discovery and extraction, as well as geotechnical investigations for civil engineering projects such as dams, roads, highways and pipelines. They are also trained in pollution management, environmental impact assessment, geological mapping and consultancy. Graduates possess the competence to bid for and execute professional projects, prepare technical reports and provide advisory services.
