About Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology Department

The Department of Environmental Management and Toxicology focuses on understanding, averting, and mitigating the effects of pollutants and hazardous substances on environmental ecosystems and human health. It combines environmental science, chemistry, biology, risk assessment, and policy to develop practical solutions for sustainable resource use and pollution control. The department focuses on: Education and training: offers courses and practical labs in toxicology, environmental chemistry, risk analysis, environmental law, and management practices. Research: studies the fate of contaminants, exposure pathways, toxic effects, and remediation technologies (soil, water, and air). Monitoring and assessment: designs and implements environmental monitoring programs and conducts ecological and human health risk assessments. Management and policy: develops strategies for pollution prevention, waste management, regulatory compliance, and environmental impact assessment. Applied services: provides consulting, laboratory analyses, and support for environmental permitting, site cleanup, and community health protection. Collaboration: works with government agencies, industry, public health organizations, and communities to translate scientific findings into policy and practice. Typical outcomes for graduates and the department include improved environmental policy, safer industrial practices, effective remediation projects, and professionals working in research, regulatory agencies, consultancy, industry, and public health.
