Prof. Joseph Olurotimi Sanya was born seven decades ago at Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

He attended All Saints Primary School and proceeded to Eyemote Comprehensive High School, Iyin Ekiti (1973-76). Bagged his first degree in Medicine (MB.BCH) from the University of Calabar (1983). Deployed for Youth Service in Imo State (1983/84). Started his medical career as a Medical Officer at State Specialist Hospital, Ikere Ekiti in the old Ondo State in 1985. Rose through the ranks to become Chief Medical Officer/Chief Medical Director. Retired voluntarily in January, 2007 and went fully into academics.

He got a Masters degree in Human Physiology at the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife (2003). Bagged his PhD degree in Human Physiology from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State(2010). Started as a Senior Lecturer at Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti in 2011, rose to the post of professor and was the pioneer Provost of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences of the institution for nine of the eleven years of his sojourn there. He graduated four sets of doctors, several sets of other health sciences graduates, before voluntarily stepping aside as Provost in 2021.

He was conferred with the prestigious National Productivity Order of Merits (NPOM) Award by the Federal government in 2012 and Ekiti State Merit Award and Honours Roll the following year, among other numerous awards. He's a minister of the Gospel and has been a radio evangelist for more than twenty-five years, where he anchors the programs "Back To The Bible" and its vernacular version "Pada Si Bibeli" (in Ekiti dialect). He is married to Bimbo and blessed with children and grandchildren.
