Senator Binta Masi Garba

DISTINGUISHED SENATOR BINTA MASI GARBA is a politician, a businesswoman, a philanthropist, an administrator, and a gender equity advocate.

Senator Binta Masi Garba is a native of Bazza - a town in the Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State. She exemplifies perseverance, courage and hope while maintaining its unique style and rhythm. She is the first female state Chairperson of a registered major political party in Nigeria (the All Progressives Congress, Adamawa State Chapter). She has broken several glass ceilings for her gender. Senator Binta served in the Federal House of Representatives thrice between 1999 and 2011. She is the first and only politician in Nigeria to represent two different Federal constituencies of two different states: (1999-2007, Kaduna South, Kaduna State and 2007-2011, Madagali / Michika, Adamawa State). Senator Binta was the only female delegate from Adamawa State to the National Conference in 2014.

She attended Army Children School, New Cantonment D, Hayin Banki, Kaduna between 1975 and1981. She earned HND in Marketing from the Kaduna Polytechnic, and attended J.F Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (USA). She has attended several conferences and workshops all over the globe. She has held and chaired several Committees in the Upper Chamber which include Chairman Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND, other Committees she Chaired while in the Green Chambers were: Infrastructure Development Committee on Appropriations, Anti- Corruption Ethics and National Value.

Senator Binta Garba was at a time Vice President Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians (African Region) Inter- Parliamentary Relations.

Before joining the political fray, she has always had that deep sense of commitment to empower, improve and uplift the living conditions of her people, especially the under-privileged and the disadvantaged. She has to her name, quality accomplishments recorded in all directions across the spectrum of human endeavors that positively impact on the lives of the people of her constituency, through a wide range of people-oriented initiatives in: Education, healthcare, youth empowerment and employment, provision of portable water, rural electrification, agriculture, and humanitarian services. She has indeed, unleashed irreversible transformation across all the local governments and the wards that made up her constituency. In 2022, she served as Chairman of the Board of National Inland Water Ways (NIWA). She was also a Board member of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA)between 2020 and 2021. Between 2015 and 2019, she served as Senator representing Adamawa North. A woman of many first positive references, Senator Binta Masi Garba, was the only female Senator from the North in the 8th Senate.
