The management of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti (FUTES-IYIN), has reiterated its commitment to sustaining a robust partnership with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as part of efforts to ensure a seamless, transparent, and merit-driven admission process for the University.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, stated this during a courtesy visit by the University management team to the Ekiti State Office of JAMB in Ado-Ekiti.
Aribisala said the visit underscored the University's commitment to fostering strategic collaboration with critical stakeholders within and outside of the education sector, particularly in ensuring a seamless, transparent and credible admission process as well as the welfare of both staff and students of the University.
He commended the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for the transformational reforms introduced by the Board over the years.
"We sincerely appreciate the remarkable leadership of Professor Ishaq Oloyede and the reforms he has introduced in JAMB. The Board has continued to strengthen the credibility of Nigeria's admission system through transparency, accountability and innovation," he said.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the quality of students admitted into any university ultimately determines the quality of graduates it produces, noting that FUTES-IYIN was determined to attract bright and qualified candidates capable of sustaining academic excellence.
"As a university, we are committed to admitting quality students because the quality of graduates we produce is largely a reflection of the quality of students we admit. We will continue to work closely with JAMB to ensure that every stage of our admission exercise conforms with established guidelines and global best practices," Aribisala added.
The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that the institution was set to expand its academic offerings with the introduction of three additional programmes.
According to him, the National Universities Commission is expected to conduct resource verification for the proposed programmes ahead of their commencement in the next academic session.
Responding, the Ekiti State Coordinator of JAMB, Mr. Ishola Ganiyu, while thanking the management of the University for the visit which he described as timely, expressed satisfaction with the institution's performance during its inaugural admission exercise, noting that the institution recorded an impressive turnout despite being one of the country's newest universities.
The coordinator observed that some older universities still struggle to fill their admission quotas, adding that FUTES-IYIN early success was encouraging and a positive development for the nation's tertiary education system.
He also advised the University to establish a Computer-Based Test centre on campus, explaining that such a facility would not only support examination activities but also serve as a viable source of internally generated revenue.
Meanwhile, earlier while giving his speech, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that the University was already constructing a 250-capacity Information and Communication Technology building at its permanent site, a project expected to support digital learning and future CBT operations.
Other principal officers of the University on the courtesy visit included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor designate, Professor Olumide Ogundipe; Registrar, Mr. Oluwole Dada; Bursar, Mrs. Ajayi Rachael Adeniyi; and the University Librarian, Professor Isaac Oluwadare Busayo.
